Nebulink
Is Nebulink safe to install?
Last updated November 2, 2026
A new program from one person should earn your trust, so here is exactly what the installer does, what Nebulink talks to on the network, and how to check that the file you downloaded is the file we built.
About antivirus and Windows warnings
Nebulink's installer is not yet signed with a code-signing certificate. We are getting one. Until then, Windows SmartScreen may say the publisher is unknown, and some antivirus programs may block a file they have not seen before. That is a warning about a new, small program, not a finding that it contains anything harmful. Every new release is also sent to Microsoft and the main antivirus vendors as a false-positive check.
If you would rather be sure before you run it, compare the file's checksum with the one below. If they match, the file is exactly what we published. If your antivirus still stops it, write to support@getnebulink.com and we will help. You can also try the live demo in your browser first. It installs nothing.
Check your download (SHA-256)
Every release has a SHA-256 checksum, a fingerprint of the file. In Windows, open PowerShell in the folder with the installer and run:
Get-FileHash .\Nebulink-Setup.exe -Algorithm SHA256
The long code it prints must match this one exactly:
What the installer does
- Installs Nebulink for your own Windows user, in your Programs folder. By default it does not need administrator rights.
- Adds Start menu shortcuts (and a desktop icon if you tick it), including a demo mode with simulated telescopes.
- Installs no drivers, no background service, no browser add-on and no toolbar.
- Uninstalls from Windows Settings, Apps. Your pictures are your own and are not deleted.
What Nebulink connects to
Nebulink runs on your own PC and shows its screens in your browser, from a small server that only answers requests from your own PC. Phone access is off until you switch it on. There is no account, no tracking and no advertising. It reaches the internet only for these jobs:
- Your Seestar, on your own Wi-Fi. No internet is needed for this.
- Weather: MET Norway (forecast), the US National Weather Service and Germany's DWD (warnings), NASA and NOAA (satellite and radar maps), NASA POWER (weather history). They receive your observing place, not your name.
- Sky pictures and labels: the CDS sky survey in Strasbourg and the VizieR star catalogue. They receive the sky coordinates of a target.
- Comets and satellites: the Minor Planet Center and CelesTrak. Nebulink only downloads public lists.
- Updates and how-to videos: small public files from getnebulink.com. YouTube loads only when you open the videos.
- Your licence: Gumroad, and our relay on Cloudflare, checks the key you enter, about once a day.
- Optional, only if you switch them on: phone alerts through ntfy.sh or your own Discord channel, and Send log to support (passwords and keys are removed first).
The full table, with what is sent and when, is in the privacy policy. If we ever add something new, that page changes before the release does.
