Nebulink
Privacy policy
Last updated November 2, 2026
Nebulink is made by one person, Paul R. Smaglik, in Pennsylvania, USA ("we", "us"). In short: Nebulink runs on your own PC, there's no account to create, and nothing about you or your nights is collected unless you choose to send it. This page explains exactly what leaves your PC, and when.
This website
- No tracking. getnebulink.com has no advertising, no analytics and no tracking cookies.
- Hosting. The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare handles your IP address and basic request details to deliver the pages and protect the site from attacks.
- Videos. The tour video and the how-to videos come from YouTube's privacy-enhanced service, and each one loads only when you press play. From then on, YouTube's own privacy policy applies.
- Live demo. The demo runs in your browser with sample data. It may load sky photos from the CDS sky survey service in Strasbourg, which receives only the sky coordinates of the picture.
When you email us
Mail to support@getnebulink.com is forwarded by Cloudflare Email Routing to our mailbox. We use your email address and what you write only to answer you, and, if you joined the early-access list (now closed), to tell you about Nebulink. Ask and we'll take you off the list and delete your messages.
When you buy Nebulink
Purchases are handled by Gumroad, which processes the payment and sends your license key. We never see your card details. Gumroad shares with us what it needs for your license and for support: your name, email address, what you bought, when, and your license key. Gumroad's privacy policy covers how it handles your payment.
The Nebulink app
Nebulink runs on your Windows PC. Your plans, pictures, imaging history, settings, logs and the Seestar connection key stay on your PC. There's no account and no usage tracking. The app connects to the internet only for these things:
| What | Who receives it | What is sent | When |
|---|---|---|---|
| Weather forecast | MET Norway | Your scope's location (latitude and longitude) | When the forecast is shown or refreshed, at most every 30 minutes for each place |
| Weather warnings | The US National Weather Service; the Deutscher Wetterdienst for places in Germany | Your scope's location | Every 5 minutes while a Seestar is connected, and when the Weather page is open |
| Weather map and Storm guard | NASA (the satellite photo and infrared clouds), NOAA (radar and US state lines), the Deutscher Wetterdienst (radar in Germany) | The map area around your observing place | When the weather map is shown, and every 2 minutes while a plan runs |
| Weather history | NASA POWER | Your observing place, rounded to about 10 km | When the Weather page shows the history, at most every 12 hours for each place; what comes back is kept on your PC |
| Sky photos for targets | CDS, Strasbourg | The sky coordinates of the target | When a target's photo or framing is shown |
| Labels on your pictures | The VizieR star catalog service at CDS, Strasbourg (or its copy at Harvard) | The sky coordinates of the picture | When you press Labels on a picture |
| Comet list | Minor Planet Center | Nothing about you; Nebulink downloads the public list | About every two days |
| Satellite passes | CelesTrak | Nothing about you; Nebulink downloads the public orbit lists | When satellite passes are shown, at most every 12 hours |
| Update notice and how-to video list | downloads.getnebulink.com (and getnebulink.com for the video list, and as a backup for the update notice) | Nothing about you; Nebulink reads small public files. Our host sees the app's version | Once a day for the update notice, at most twice a day for the video list |
| How-to videos | YouTube | What any website receives: your IP address and browser details | When you open How-to videos (the video pictures), and when you press play (YouTube's privacy-enhanced service) |
| License check | Gumroad, our license provider; our relay on Cloudflare when you press Deactivate this PC, and for beta testers' keys | Your license key, and any renewal key you enter. Gumroad counts how many PCs use the license key | When you activate or deactivate a license, and about once a day to check it |
| Phone alerts (optional) | ntfy.sh, or your own Discord channel | The alert text, for example "The plan finished" | Only if you switch alerts on |
| Send log to support (optional) | Our support relay on Cloudflare, which passes it to a private Discord channel only we can read | Nebulink's log files and the note you write. Passwords and keys are removed from the log first | Only when you press Send log |
Some things never leave your PC: place search and the town names Nebulink shows, which come from a list on your PC, voice questions, which are recognized on the PC, the Nebulink Helper, AI processing, which runs GraXpert on your PC, and your pictures. Nebulink on your phone works only on your own network. If you install GraXpert, it downloads its own AI models under its own terms.
An ntfy alert topic can be read by anyone who knows its name, so pick one that is hard to guess, or use your own Discord channel. Logs you send to support are kept only as long as we need them to help you, and then deleted.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, by writing to support@getnebulink.com. We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it except with the services named on this page, or where the law requires it.
Children
Nebulink and this website aren't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Changes
If Nebulink starts sending anything new, we'll update this page and the date at the top before the new version is released.
